about us
PS Communications debuted in 1996 with the introduction of the Oak Ridge Observer, initially a once-a-month community newsletter focused exclusively on the small town of Oak Ridge. The Oak Ridge Observer was so well received by readers as well as businesses who appreciated having an affordable option for advertising that it soon grew to 12 pages, then 16 pages.
In 1998 we converted to a tabloid newspaper format and began publishing twice a month – then three times a month, then from March 2007 until June 2020, once a week (the Northwest Observer is currently published on the 1st, 3rd and 5th Thursday of each month). Along the way we expanded our coverage area of Oak Ridge to include the neighboring community of Summerfield, and then Stokesdale – thus the name change to the Northwest Observer.
In addition to the Northwest Observer, PS Communications also proudly publishes the Northwest Finder, an annual resource filled with “need-to-know, fun-to-know and good-to-know information about northwest Guilford County.” We also maintain a strong online presence with our interactive community website and the Northwest Observer's Facebook page. Additionally, we publish several specialty publications throughout the year.
Our staff is small but mighty, and we have the unique opportunity to call work “fun” as we learn something new every day about the lives and antics of local residents, local politics, and meeting the demands and desires of over 28,000 readers.
PS Communications Inc. was founded by owner Patti Stokes. The corporation is independently owned and operated.
